"Memento mori"
Rebeckah was born in Lexington, MA on November 5, 1724. She was the fourth of the ten children born to Major Benjamin and Mrs. Rebeckah (Stone) Reed. Like his father before him, Benjamin was one of the leaders in the town, serving not only as a Major of the local militia, but also as town constable, assessor, selectman, and Justice of the Peace. For ten years he was the town's representative to the General Court.
Rebeckah married John Muzzy around 1743. They had fourteen children that I can find in the Lexington vital records. Their last five children, a boy and four girls born in the late 1760s, all died before they were baptized. Most of the others survived ito adulthood. Their oldest son Isaac was one of the eight men killed on Lexington Green by the British Regulars on April 19, 1775. John served as a town clerk, selectman, assessor, and was a representative to the General Court. He was appointed as a Justice of the Peace by Governor Thomas Hutchinson. He was also a Deacon in the church for a time.
Rebeckah died in Lexington on January 22, 1771 and is buried in Ye Olde Burying Ground. Her gravestone, carved by the Park family, also memorializes five of her children who are buried near by, likely in otherwise unmarked graves.
