Coming from a more affluent family, Errol was educated at Worcester Academy. After graduation he went into business with his father at the Marsh Trellis Company.

In early 1917 he began military training at Plattsburgh, NY, and registered for the draft on May 29, 1917. His paperwork was signed by George C. Scott. On August 15 of that year he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant with the 302nd Infantry at Fort Devens. His paperwork describes him as being tall with a medium build, with blue eyes and light hair.

On August 23, 1917 he married Jane “Jennie” Amanda Nason, and the couple resided in Westborough, MA. He joined the Masons, and belonged to the Siloam Lodge.

Lt. Marsh was sent over to France in July, 1918. In October he was transferred to the 319th Infantry. He was killed in action in the Argonne on November 2, 1918 and laid to rest in the Cemetery of St. Juvin. In 1921 his remains were disinterred and sent back to the US.
