George was born around 1839 to Daniel and Mary H. (Stevens) Eveleth in either Dorchester or Dedham — his death record says Dorchester but his marriage record lists Dedham. He was the youngest of their children on the 1850 and 1855 Censuses.
In his youth he and his family moved frequently, and can be found in various locations in eastern Massachusetts: Dorchester, Boston, Lynn, Amesbury…
In December 1861 he went to Providence, RI and enlisted as a Private in the 1st Rhode Island Cavalry, Company F. He served faithfully until his disability discharge in December 1862.
After his discharge George went to Amesbury, MA and found work as a carriage trimmer, a job he had had before the War. He lived in a rooming house.
On December 1, 1873 George married Ellen Wheeler (nee Adams) in Needham, MA. It was his first marriage but her second. Ellen had a daughter, Isabella, who was about ten at the time of her marriage to George. George is listed as Isabella’s father on her marriage record, so I’m guessing he adopted her when he married Ellen. They didn’t have any other children. Isabella married James A. Morfelt in 1883.
George died in Lynn, MA on October 10, 1907 of Bright’s disease and valvulitis. He rests for eternity in Westwood Cemetery in Westwood, MA.
