The gravestone of Mr. Jonathan Lawrence

Jonathan was born in Lexington, MA on February 13, 1706 to John and Anna (Tarbell) Lawrence. He was towards the middle of their ten children.

In 1727 Jonathan married Elizabeth Swain of Reading. Early in their marriage they moved around a bit, living in Sudbury and Framingham. Though he was not the oldest son of his parents, his father granted him the family farm on Bedford Road in 1737, and they moved back to Lexington shortly after.

He was very active in town life, serving for many years as town assessor. He and his wife also ran the girl’s school in Lexington out of their home (a common practice at the time).

Jonathan died in Lexington on March 19, 1773 in his 68th year.
