The gravestone of Maj. Moses Dresser

Moses was born in Charlton, MA on April 17, 1755 to Richard and Dorothy (Marcy) Dresser. He was the seventh of their thirteen children, and the first one born after Charlton separated from Oxford.


Moses married Abigail Blood on November 23, 1776. They had children together, including Chester who settled in Illinois, and Moses Jr.


During the American Revolution Moses served as a Private in Capt. Ebenezer Webber’s Company in Lt. Col. Samuel William’s Regiment from December 1776 through March 1777. After the War he was a Major in the County militia.


He was a member of the Fayette Lodge of Masons in Charlton. His son, Moses Jr., was also a member.


Moses died in Charlton on November 29, 1813 and is buried in the Blood Cemetery.
