The oldest garden cemetery in the United States was established in Massachusetts in 1831. These cemeteries not only give cities a dedicated place to bury their dead, but they provide a place for the living to enjoy nature and escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Established in 1839, Harmony Grove is a lovely place to take a walk to find peace. Much of the cemetery is located on rolling hills, so there are many breathtaking views to be had of the landscape.

Rural Cemetery and Crematory was the first garden style in Worcester. It was incorporated in 1838, and has been active ever since. Worcester has grown quite a lot since the 1830s, and Rural is a quiet oasis for those seeking to get away from the noise of the city.

Lowell Cemetery -- Lowell, MA


Lowell Cemetery was established in 1841 just a few years after Mount Auburn Cemetery. Like Mount Auburn, Lowell Cemetery is a garden cemetery, and is a place to both bury the dead and enjoy art and nature.
