Juan L. Fuller was born in Millbury, MA to William S. Fuller, a gunsmith, and Almira Harriet Laduke. He had one older brother, William, who served during the US Civil War, and one much younger brother named Edward.
Juan L. Enlisted as a Private in Company H. in the 31st Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment on April 9, 1867. He is recorded as being 5 feet 7 inches, and having blue eyes, brown hair, and a fair complexion. He was employed as a painter. Private Fuller was discharged on April 9, 1870, having honorably served his 3-year enlistment.
On July 25, 1870 he married Mary Small in nearby Sutton, MA. After his marriage Juan found work as a machinist at Samuel Winslow’s ice skate manufacturing company in Worcester, MA.
He drowned on January 13, 1876 while skating on Lake Quinsigamond. He had been reported missing that evening, and his body was found the next day.
His white bronze memorial marker and 35 others were placed by the Town of Millbury later that summer.
