Rev. Joseph Mors was born in Medfield, MA on May 25, 1671 to Joseph and Priscilla (Colburn) Morse.
He attended Harvard, graduating in 1695. Around 1701 Joseph married Amity Harris of Providence, RI, and they had seven children.
In 1707 Rev. Mors began ministering to the residents of the former “praying town” of Ponkapoag who were still living in the area (many had been relocated, killed, or enslaved after King Phillip’s War). Rev. Mors was ordained and seated as a minister of Dorchester Village in 1717. Between 1710 and 1725 he purchased and was gifted quite a bit of land from the native peoples in the area, which upset many of the local powers that be. He was dismissed from his post in 1726 on the (unfounded) grounds of “personal misconduct”.
Rev. Mors died at his home in Stoughton on November 29, 1732, and is buried in Canton Corner Cemetery in Canton, MA.
