Edward Carter
This is the grave of Edward Carter (1697-1742) in Boston’s Granary Burying Ground. He was a silk dyer and scourer who ran a shop on Cambridge Street near Lynne Street in the West End of Boston. The epitaph takes up the majority of his gravestone and is put higher than his name. Sarah Rice
Sarah was born in Sudbury, MA on October 31, 1718 to Jonathan and Sarah Smith, the oldest of the their three children whose births are recorded in the town. She married Nathaniel Rice, also of Sudbury, on November 24, 1737. They had one child, a daughter named Sarah, on September 3, 1738. Sarah the mother died on January 4, 1740/1. Her daughter died three weeks later. They lie side by side in the Revolutionary War Cemetery in Sudbury, MA.
